To the first participant...

Thank you for your completely asinine response.

I was talking about the CITIZENS of the nations.

War makes citizens of nations fight against each other even though in another time and place.. they would have been friends.

Don't answer if you're not willing to read beyond the lines.

Reminds me of All Quiet on the Western Front...
And yes, it does... We're all human, and deep inside of us, I believe there's still a need to love one another... And deep inside, we know that we are still similar-- families, friends, love, etc.

"But now, for the first time, I see you are a man like me. I thought of your hand-grenades, of your bayonet, of your rifle; now I see your wife and your face and our fellowship. Forgive me, comrade. We always see it too late. Why do they never tell us that you are poor devils like us, that your mothers are just as anxious as ours, and that we have the same fear of death, and the same dying and the same agony--Forgive me, comrade; how could you be my enemy?'" Chapter 9, p. 223

That always makes me break out in goosebumps... I'm going to have to read the book now-- I had watched the movie before. Thank you.

I see your point, because, by going to war with a country we make enemies of the other countries who were once considered friendly to both nations and chose to side with the opposing force. We cannot, however, choose our battles over which country will or will not get mad. I think the choice to go to war in Iraq was a poor one, not because of the enemies we made, but for the reason 'behind the reason', so to speak. Everyone knows there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, yet we continue to fight anyway and it has cost us the lives of over 3,000 soldiers. It has gotten to a point where Iraq is basically in a civil war among themselves, so it is high time we brought our troops home, not send thousands more, which is what I just read the US is going to do. War is serious, and thanks for the serious question. It's nice to see there are still people who can think!

I realize that some nations have no respect for those who won't thwart their abuse of power by retaliation.
If you are referring to the middle east, you can bet that their media is even more corrupt than ours and is far more responsible for making enemies than any number of guns we send overseas.

I don't know if they would be friends because for the most part, those enemies would never have met, but nothing about war makes much sense.

its the cruel reality of life. the masses fight to satisfy the quarrels of the elites. what seperates people? religion? nationality? color? all these things are so superficial. in the end we are all united in our own humanity.
