I know this must be an odd question for those of you who are in the US, but I just need this piece of information. I live in another country, and I wish to go to the US to finish my college education. Knowing this would help me prepare more ;) Thanks!

Those on the semester system usually start at the very end of August. Those on the quarter system usually start at the end of September.

If the college is on the semester system:
Fall Semester usually starts in late August or the beginning of September until December (right before the holidays). Then there is usually about a month break before the Spring semester begins at the end of January and runs until the end of May.
If the college is on the quarter system (each quarter begins about every 3 months):
Fall Quarter usually starts at the end September and runs until mid December
Winter Quarter usually runs from beginning of January until mid March.
Spring Quarter usually runs from end of March/beginning of April until mid June.
Summer quarter usually runs from middle/end of June until August
If you know which school you're planning to go, they usually have an academic calendar posted in their catalog.

Late August/early September if you are considering entering during the Fall semester or 1st trimester. Mid january if you are coming ion for the Spring Semester. You finish college in May for summer break, though many colleges also offer summer classes. Check with the individual colleges and they will get you the important dates you need for their particular school. Also you will need these dates to apply for your student visa.

it depends on the college -some college are on the quarter
system, some are on the tri semester and others are on by semesters
a majority of them usually start in late Augest and end in December but others contined to January,
and a new semester starts in February
