It's best to wait until she can say she wants them done.
However, if you do have your child's ear pierce, take them to a piercing/tattoo place and have it done there. Piercing guns are never sterilized enough. Call first to make sure they will pierce ear lobes of children under 18. Some won't. It's 100% more sanitary and there's much less risk of infection.
(Stay away, far away, from places in the mall!)

Most places won't do it till they are 2 months old, and her pediatrician reccomended 2 months old. My daughter was 2 months old when I got her ears pierced. People would call her a boy even though she was earing pink, and as for letting her decide, if she doesn't want earings later in life then she doesn't have to wear them.

I had my daughter's ears pierced when she was 4 months old. I took her to a professional and made sure to clean and rotate the earrings. She's now an adult and has never had any problems with infection or soreness on her ear lobes.

If it is something that you really want to do, then typically they are done at 3 months of age, depending on the size and development of your child's ears.
I did get my daughter's done at 4 months, before she really knew. She has never messed with them. It's so cute because now that she is at 20 months old and is picking up on the word "ear" and "earring" she touches hers and smiles. It's adorable.
If you do decide to go ahead and get your baby's pierced, please be sure to use a jewelry store that is sterile and one that does babies frequently.
Good luck!

6 weeks, i had my daughter's done when she was 6 weeks old so that she would not mess with the earrings and she wouldn't know that they were not part of her. just a normal everyday part of life for her. just make sure that you have it done to clean them the way you should so that they don't get infected. plus when you do it at 6 weeks it don't hurt or scare them as bad as it does when they get older and she will only cry for a second b/c of the pop of the piercing gun.

After they have their tetanus shot(not sure I spelled that right). If you go to Claire's or its sister stores, they want the baby to be 3 months old to make sure they have had the shot-it is typically given at two months. Earrings are supposed to be sterile, but better safe than a newborn with tetanus.

They say 3 months old but I agree with JustAmy. My daughter didn't get her's done till SHE wanted it done. I was forced to have mine done and now I don't even wear earrings. Let your child decide when shes ready.

You can do it as early as you like. There are even midwives who will do it immediately after the baby is born. Personally, I'm waiting until my daughters are older, but my sister had her daughter's done around one year old.
