Possibly low tranny fluid, or is in need of being replaced or rebuilt.

Try this,
when yo9u "think" it should shift let up off the gas just a little and see if it does shift. if it doesn't it probably shouldn't.
Is this an O.D. Tranny then it should shift around 2500-3000 rpm on a 6 cyl and a little higher on a 4.
If it is racing and you have lost power due to the high rpm then a simple adjustment is all that is probably necessary. THere are a lot of Transmission shops that will do a no obligation check on the transmission.....Always get two or three quotes, one may try to take advantage. I own a shop that doesn't specialize in transmission repair but i have 2 tech's that are certified. this is their suggesion..

It could possibly be low trans fluid or you may need to get your tranny rebuilt.

LOL! I live in San Francisco and thought you had a question about how to deal with a transsexual person.
