I have no money, and at this rate never will. Can I file bandruptcy, or will I still be responsible for the lien? Please help.

Again, I live in Michigan and the economy just dropped to almost the worst in the country. I will lose about 30,000 in the house and still owe her.

Okay, this question is actually for my 79 year old Grandpa. VERY long horrible story that he is completely getting screwed over. I thought it was just easier to write in first person.

Talk to legal aid in your area. They can help explain the laws reguarding liens better than we can. We might not be idiots, but we do not have the legal expertises in Michigan law.
Bankruptcy is a tough way to deal with your finacial problems. Avoid it if you can. Look at your expenses and see what can be cut out to save money instead. Consider working a part time job a few nights a week or on weekends to add income. Consult a non-profit debt advisor to help bring your money under your control.
If you sell the house, you must settle the lien immediately. Try to keep your house if possible, but in reality, you might have to find a new home.

You can file for bankruptcy but you will still have to pay your wife. If you sell your house it will pay the lien and pay your wife. If you dont pay your wife, you will be in a lot of trouble and they can garnish your wages and all kinds of other things.

You have an ex wife and your avatar is a girl? Maybe this is your karma sneaking up on you and paying you back for trying to portray yourself as a woman when you aren't. That would be my take on it. Fix your karma.
