I have a regular xbox and for some reason it doesn't read discs. I'll put in a brand new game and it will say that the disc is scratched or dirty. It will work sometimes but most of the time it says to make sure that the disc is an xbox game. Can anyone tell me whats wrong. Or how to fix it. Can I buy anything to stop this from happening.

You can try a CD/DVD cleaner, but it sounds like you will need to replace your DVD drive. They are hard to come by, since only certain models will work with the Xbox discs. If you do a search for Xbox replacement dvd drives

Here is a link, but they are sold out. This is for your reference.

Perhaps you need a new laser. I think I saw a new laser for a Playstation 2, and it only cost something like $15. I'm not sure on the details or whatever, though, but I know lasers can wear out on game consoles and they can be replaced.

maybe you have a bad lens. maybe its scratched or dirty - try taking it to a computer company to get it fixed or call the manufacturer - dont try a dvd cleaner the xbox wont accept it and will try to run the disc and can actually screw up your xbox worse.

You can send it off to be repaired at 80 bucks or buy a new one. Get a memory card and save all your games. you need to get a new one it's shot. Happened to me.
