Yes the pain starts from the top of your abdomen and radiates down through your pelvis.
These are My Child Birthing Class Notes:
6 PRE-LIMINARY SIGNS OF LABOR:
Your body is progressing towards Labor but not worthy of “the” phone call– Usually occurs 2 weeks prior:
•Braxton Hick Contractions
oLasts up to 30 sec. feels like backache or like cramps and will continue from 5 months on. Best way to find out if it is not labor, is change the activity, if it stops when you change the activity it’s not Real Labor.
•Weight Stabilization
o2 weeks before you go into Real Labor you will have weight stabilization – the body says enough
•Nesting
o2 weeks before you go into Real Labor you will have a Burst of Energy – Nesting, it will only last for 2 days – 48 hours.
•Lightening, Bay dropping, Engagement
oFrom -4 floating pelvic station to the -3,-2,-1 pelvic station. When you notice that the baby has dropped from 36 weeks on.
•Increased Vaginal Discharge
o2 weeks before you go into Real Labor - Increased Vaginal Discharge
•Diarrhea
o2 weeks before you go into Labor you will have diarrhea, this is a sign that the body is cleaning itself out and preparing for labor.
( 3 ) ACTUAL SIGNS OF LABOR!
– No sequence of Events –
Phone call necessary once you have 2 of the following symptoms this is deemed Real Labor.
** You can have contractions before your water breaks.
•Loss of Mucus Plug – It means you have begun to dilate 1-3cm
•Water Break (Ruptured membranes)
oSit down – Rest Feet up, Not just one gush, it will be a constant leak
oNote the TIME
oCall the Doctor
oClear is Normal
oGreen You Go to Hospital right away.
ï§This means mechonium which is the baby’s bowel movement – Which can mean fetal distress or the baby is breached.
oFastest way to get baby to move push or move the belly
oHospital staff will want to deliver the baby in 24 hours of when your water breaks, and will do less internal exams as this is when the baby is more prone to infection.
•5 minutes apart From Start to Start – Time it. There should be (12) contractions in one hour.
CONGRATULATIONS & GOOD LUCK!

If it doesnt go away its probably your muscles stretching since the baby grows about 1/8 a pound every day right now.
If it comes and goes, its most likely contractions.
When they get painful and are 5 minutes apart, start to start of contraction, then you're supposed to see if they last for atleast an hour, and then call your doctor because thats considered labor.
or so iam told :)

if the pain is with contractions then maybe you are in labor.you can determine you are having contractions if your belly is kind of hard.time your contraction,if it is less than a minute, you are going to have your baby oon if not you still have time to go to the hospital.
