That is a complete myth. I'm in medical school and have taken neurology. We use virtually all of our brain, but not at the same time. This myth stems from the fact that we don't use all of our brain at one time. When all the brain is being stimulated at the same time, that is called a seizure. The brain is all about controlled, coordinated reactions between just the neurons that are needed at any specific time.

You pretty much do use all of your brain, just not all of the time. It's like having 100 channels on cable. You only pay attention to one at a time, even when you flick between several.

What would happen if all of your brain were in your conscious awareness all the time? You would be paralyzed with confusion, with images, emotions and thoughts, all making up one static buzz of chaotic nonsense.

Just think of it this way- What would happen if you used all of your skin all of the time? In a sense you do, but in another sense, you don't. Same with your brain.

That thing about us only using 10% of our brains is an urban legend. We use all of our brains.

We do use all of our brain. For proof, consider this:
When people go blind, their hearing and other senses get better. In other words, when we stop using part of our brain for one sense, we start using it for another. We are always using every part of our brain.
