Just installing a dvd drive does not mean you can access dvd's. You also need to install a dvd encoder software. Microsoft Media Player does not have one by default. You need to install a DVD viewer such as WinDVD or Power DVD or something like that and a DVD Encoder will also be installed, which will also let Microsoft Media Player view DVD's also.....

Try downloading the latest Media player i.e. Windows Media player 11 and then it should work without problems! Did it ever work or it was like this always?

the lens might be dirty! Get a D lens cleaner, they don't cost much, they are basically a CD with a tiny little brush on. I used one when my cd p[layer stopped working and it worked again.

Maybe the DVDs you are playing are scratched up or dirty. That may be the case.
