Why is he made of wood and not of metal

It doesn't since he was changed into a real boy while he was an enchanted puppet brought to life by a fairy but he was still made of wood and to teach him a lesson she told him his nose would grow if he told a lie
he was made of wood because Japetto his Father was a wood carver not a metal-smith and his wish was for a son
so he made the puppet for company

Its not long- it only gets long when he lies. He is made of wood, not metal because he is a puppet. I figure it would be a lot easier to make a puppet (that you have to carry around) out of wood than it is metal.

it grows when he lies.....it a very old story.they didn't have metal back then.
