Just buy a Dell for $300. You'd need a lot more than a CPU to make that computer good.

I wouldn't bother trying to upgrade as you would have to upgrade the motherboard, memory, graphics the BIOS and all of your drivers, and that's just to start with!.You're much better off figuring out what you need from your system and then buying(i.e. go shopping and ask around!.)something which you can afford.Good luck and merry Xmas.

It MAY be a PGA370.

The bigger issue is that putting a newer chip (if you could) may not get you much of a performance improvement. You'll still be slowed by the older memory, motherboard, etc.

In short, you may be better off getting a new system.

you would be better off to build a new computer. your running old motherboard, and components. your ram will no longer work in modern systems. big hard drives are cheaper.

you can build a super nice system for 500, and it will cost you that much to upgrade yours to 1/2 of whats available now.

Its probably socket 370, but you won't be able to upgrade far! Best off getting a new motherboard.
