1 Try gently blowing the opening of the cartridge, but make sure not too much saliva goes with it
2 Check if the cartridge is put VERY properly, improper insertion may lead to malfunction of the platform
3 Is a cartridge inserted?
4 Check the cartridge in another GBA SP if it works. If it does, something might be wrong with your GBA SP. If it doesn't work, something might be wrong with the cartridge.
5 Re-insert the cartridge SLOWLY and CAREFULLY
6 Make sure the screws or whatever in the cartridge is fine
7 Try "shaking" your cartridge A LITTLE if there's a foreign object inside
8 MAke sure the things in the cartridge are still together
7 Don't put anything else inside the cartridge aside from things appropriate

if there is just a blank screen then maybe she dosent have the game all the way in the gameboy or the batteries may be low.

Either there's no game in the gameboy or the battery need to be charged.

Either the screen burned out, or the wires inside are disconnected, meaning you need to have some one, or yourself open it up, and check the wiring.

I had the same problem with my old SP and changing the battery did work, but if that does not work than the motherboard might be screwing up (that also happened too me) so hope it`s not the Motherboard :)

Call you local retailer and get the number for NIntendo and call them and tell them about it. My step-sons did the same thing and they replaced it as long it has not been longer than a year

Take the game out and blow in the place where you put the game and blow in the game cartridge then put it back in
