I believe it is a box that holds an evil entity. It is placed there by some sort of spell and contains personal items of the deceased.

Interesting story, quite amusing. However, obviously a fabrication it may have been slightly more credible if names had been named, as the Nazis kept detailed records of prisoners, and at least the identities could have been verified. As it stands, it is no more real, than what one would find on Snopes.com.
