If you are going to download free (illegal) music then you need to learn to download smart. Viruses are only for those who don't know how to use their software. Software like limewire (limewire.com) can be a risk if you don't know what you are doing. Make sure files you download have the ".mp3", ".mp4", or ".acc" file extension and have a size of at least 2.5megs (2500kb)

There's lots of genuine free music download sites but they're usually showcasing the work of unsigned artists or make music available for publicity purposes.

Commercially available music (that you can buy in the shops) should be paid for even if downloaded. Any site offering something for free has to make money somehow to keep it going, if it's offering free music then there's going to be a catch, albeit that it might just be adverts and pop-ups.

Many free music sites are packed full of viruses, trojans and other stuff you don't want on your computer. Limewire is reported to be free of all such things (http://wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=70819 ) so you could try that.

Napster is pretty good. It's like $13 a month for unlimited downloads. But the first week is free. So u should get a list of songs u like then download them for free. But DON'T USE LIMEWIRE. It crashes computers and gives viruses.

if u don't want a virus u probably have to buy the music so its safe...nothing comes that easy. nothing is free when it comes to downloading music unless its illegal, as far as i know. hope u find a cheap site, try yahoomusic.com or iTunes/ know that u have to pay on them though. good luck

That is illegal!

but i would go with limewire.

www.limewire.com
or frostwire
www.frostwire.com
or you could try bearshare
www.bearshare.com
and there is always morpheus
www.morpheus.com
have you tried old school kazzaa?
www.kazzaa.com (maybe kazaa, or kazza, I can't remember)
Let's not forget iTunes, the legal program which we should all be using!
www.itunes.com
But who pays now-a-days?

Oh yes, I know who. Safety Sally, Humble Hubert, Legal Larry, and Trusty Trevor. There are still some good people in this world.
