Louise, played by Susan Sarandon, was driving when Thelma, played by Geena Davis, said, "Let's do it. Let's keep going". Louise then asked, "Are you sure?" and Thelma nodds in agreement.

They drove their convertible off a cliff, the actresses were Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon. I think they were quite oblivious of their actions and the fact they were prosecuted for murder brings little to the movie, they wanted to go to Mexico without passing through Texas, perhaps to avoid some memories, they run into policemen and had to take the choice of running the further or jumping and get over with it already.
Thelma is Susan Sarandon, Louise is Geena Davis, they actually live a bad trip, Louise could have settled easily with his former fiancee, but she had to carry a gun and listen to her deranged drunk girlfriend, go figure.
