Spiders weave webs that are lightweight but very strong. When they let out the gossimer strand they are blown by the breezes and they attach to whatever they land on. From that first strand the entire web is created.

They are patient animals, they hand and wait for the winde to blow them in the direction they want, when they 'feel' the wind blowing in the direction they want they release web from their glands and literally 'ride' the wind.
I have lots of time to waste ;)
