You could treat your upper lip hair yourself with the Rio home laser hair removal kit. It uses a safe 808nm diverging diode laser to target individual hairs and kill off the follicle.

Generally, laser hair removal works best on fair skinned people with dark hair as the laser has to be able to differentiate between the hair shaft and skin.

The major difference between the Rio and a salon laser is that a salon laser machine can treat an area of about 1cm squared at a time whereas the Rio treats a single hair. However, for the upper lip area that is fine.

I used to work in a clinic where this was done. A product called EMLA is put on the area 1 hour before the treatment. It normally take 10 to 15 minutes for the treatment and you will require at least 6 treatments. The treatment is meant to be permanent but you maybe required to have treatments every six months to a year after your first 6.
It can be quite painful and red after the treatment and it is best not to go in the sun straight away. You can also try putting ice cubes on the area after the treatment. It can be quite expensive and does not work on white / grey hairs.
When you make the appointment ask them the name of the laser they intend to use and why they think this type of laser is best for you. There are all different types of lasers for different skin colours. Once you have been using one laser do not change to a different one until the person doing this has given you a reason that you are happy with.
The one side effect that i know of, is that it can cause hair to grow in other areas of the body but this is rare.
If you are thinking of having this done, speak to the person doing it thoroughly before hand

I tried laser hair removal on my chin area. I was told that I would need to have the procedure done at least 4-5 times before the hairs would be totally removed. The first procedure removes the first hair follicle, and so forth. After the last procedure, all of the hair follicles are to be permanently removed. I've tried 2 procedures & have to go back for the others. I think it hurts, especially where the hair is the thickest. It feels like a pin pricking your skin. I've never been stung by a bee, but have been told that it feels like a bee sting. There is a medication that you apply to the area about an hour before the procedure that numbs the area, but you may still feel some pain. I still have more work that needs to be done so I feel that it's not worth it yet. I did notice a difference right after the first procedure, but I didn't keep my last appointment & it seems like I haven't had any work done. So far, it looks like it's not worth it, but that may change later. The actual procedure took about 10-15 minutes, but the prep work takes longer.

Yes, feels like elastic bands snapping on your skin, but you can have anaesthetic cream applied an hour before if you think you will be too sensitive. I paid £50 per session and needed three sessions (three months apart), no longer have any hair at all as it's pretty much a permanent solution (although most clinics won't 100% guarantee this). The new lasers work much better than the old type. Bleaching is pretty much useless as instead of a dark tash you have a blonde one which actually shows up even more in sunlight, halogen lighting and UV clublights can actually make it glow !!!!!

it feels like a rubber band being snapped on your skin. side effects can include blisters/burning. your upper lip is kind of tricky area and can hurt a bit more right under your nose. But a licensed technician should test you before hand to know what machine settings to use on you. You can use a numbing cream if the pain is too much for you, but i had an allergic reaction using it and got huge crusty scabs almost like 2nd degree burn from it, so I no longer do that. My skin stays red for about 20 minutes with use of cold pack. I can normally get my entire face and my stomach done in under 30 minutes. I am not done yet, but am quite pleased with the results.

It's great, BUT you have to get multiple treatments. My friend had it done, and if lip hair is a problem [which it was for her], then it's a great investment.

i haven't had it done but many of my friends have and so has my mum.
they all said that it isn't worth it as it doesn't last for long enough.
but i guess for a quick fix for a time that is longer than waxing it is ideal.
it is expensive and causes some amount of pain but nothing major.
so i guess it just depends on if you are willing to spend the money.

Don't think it is worth the expense.
Try bleaching.
Good luck
