Generally they say 250 songs per Gig, however Mp3 files are bigger than itunes aac files and and generally an MP3 player holds less than 250 per Gig. Also it depends on what songs you have. Obviously if you have songs imported with hidden tracks these can somtimes take the space of 3 songs. Other songs, such as r&b or rap can have skits, or intros that also coutn as songs. so you never really get a real picture.
Best way to find out is fill it up.

a 4 gb mp3 player can hold 1000. but depending on how long the songs are that your put on it, it could be more or les.

Depends on track length an the info you store with it.
You'll get more songs on there the less info you put with it e.g. Changes 2pac instead of Changes 2pac greatest hits disc two etc.
