Do you still have your sound card drivers disk?
If not, you will have to figure out what model it is and download the drivers. If you have to, you will need to open the case, and inspect the card for a model number.

Go to control panel, sounds and audio devices (this can be seen in the classic view of the control panel. Press Switch to classic view) and clic on the audio tab. If there are no audio devices, you should install again your drives. If not, uninstall them and install them again.

Also there is a chance that your drivers are not XP compatible. See if your soundcard is embedded in your motherboard or if it is stand alone. Look for the model. Then you can go to the site of your sound card manufacturers (or motherboard manufacturers) and download the new drivers. Then uninstall the old ones and install the new ones.

If still no sounds, you can go to the volume control and see if it is muted or low.

Hope this helps.

It's not the speakers. It's the sound card. Not all older cards have drivers that work with XP. You have to visit the sound card manufacturers site and look for XP drivers.

No sound is heard on the computer or after Windows has been reinstalled. The audio card is often integrated with the motherboard for computers from HP and Dell. For more information you can check the following site: http://fixit.in/sound.html I find the information givenin the site is more useful

I had the same problem 2 day ago, it bugged me. You will probably have to find the discs that came with the speakers you are using and install the drivers, it worked for me, also it would be helpful if you had a disc that had many drivers, you can buy these discs from stores like JB-Hifi, but many electronic stores will have them. Also you can try ringing Microsoft Tech. Support, trust me the will help you out alot.

You'll need to download the driver for the sound card. It will probably be on the web site of the manufacturer.

check the speakers, make sure they're plugged in the right spot, same thing happened to me, and that was the problem, if that doesn't work, go to controll pannel and go to sound settings or options or something and continue from there
