I've had to say that a lot, because I have a habit of befriending liars. "Because I'm telling the truth" is the reply I usually get. Like I'm supposed to believe them THIS time.

I can't remember whether I heard it said to me, by like my dad or something, or whether I said it to someone, but I couldn't remember who I'd say it to. I haven't had the need to say that to my kids, thank God. If I got that said to me, I'd see that as a serious challenge to prove my honesty, or I'd feel that my request for belief was being completely negated, and that would be a definite "eye opener" or "gut check". I think that is a dumb thing to say. You either believe or you don`t. Nobody can make you believe something you don`t want to even if it`s right there in front of you.
