All teachers?

Being a teacher I resemble this statement! Sorry, that should read "RESENT" this statement.

Neither my students, their parents or those I meet on a daily basis think that I am 'snobbish'. Most of the teachers I know are not nor appear to be either.

We have to relate to students as a superior/in authoritr but this does not mean we are snobs, just have to retain our distance.

I have no doubt that you have come across some rather snobby teachers. I think that some secondary teachers have a bit of an attitude on them but I think this is because some are not much older than the children they are teaching. Teacher are just ordinary people and we don't assume that we will get along with all people so we don't need to think that we will form a friendship with all our teachers. By the way got effort on not making a sweeping generalisation.

As a school teacher, I'm inclined to inform you that not ALL school teachers have a snobby attitude. I want my students to view me a friend they can respect. I do not discipline my students based on fear. They love me and therefore do as I ask to please me. They know there is nothing I wouldn't do for them and simply being quiet and doing homework in my class is a small thing to do for me based on our relationship. I'm also obligated to remind you that just because our job description says "teacher," we're not any less human with varying human qualities. Is it fair to say "Why are high students delinquents?" No. Because not all high school students are, yet some, as human qualities have made their personalities such, are delinquents. I wish you were my student. I would prove to you that some teachers do what they do for no other reason than for you.

They know that you want them to teach something of value to your child, not the usual comunist manifesto they spew out on a daily basis. The college that I attend is full of leftist wingnut activists, and the teachers main goal often is to polute the minds of the freshmen.
I know because I am an adult, and know the difference from the last time I attended college.
So if the teacher is young, that is teaching your children, then they are a far stretch from what you remember teachers being like.
Usually the older teachers, like the ones with tenyear, are nice and have a genuine love for teaching, and try to teach the truth.

Actually look from their point of view, Have you ever in all of your life seen more disrespectfull children in our whole nation, Your child may be the nice well manered exception.
I had to go in for career day for one of my nephews, and there was total chaos in the classroom. I spoke to them in an authorative tone and they settled down.
I bet the teacher probably had to take medication nightly to keep her sanity.

Could be any number of reasons - could be because you've got an attitude with the teacher and they're just giving it right back. Could be that the teacher isn't secure on their subject and therefore gets an attitude to cover up lack of knowledge to stay in control of the classroom. Could be because the teacher is insecure in their own abilities and covers it up with attitude. Could be they're having a bad day because they have a family member that has failing health...

It's generally better to put yourself in someone elses shoes and understand them before you pass judgment, tho, because you may end up looking like a fool down the road when they have cancer or something strange comes out like that...

or they could just be plain jerks - I taught with one of those...

They are not snobby, they are professionals. Do you expect a doctor or lawyer to be your friend and pal? Most teachers have a great deal of knowledge and education and they deserve respect. If they speak as though they know more than you, its because they do.

becuase they are being paid a pittance to put up with raising children because their parnets cant or more often than not wont.

can you imagine having to give 30 odd children morals, disipline and social guidlines every year? simply becuase the parents wont disicpline or help further develop thier own childs social skills.

quite frankly stop picking on the teachers without them caring society would be far worse off, stop and think about this before making calls such as this

I've always found that those who have a higher level of education than I do seem a bit "above" me intellectually. Perhaps this is some of what you are perceiving as snobbery.

Your teachers are undoubtedly highly educated. As a group, they are some of the most well-educated you'll find.

They are not snobby..They are just projecting an authoritative image. You will have to approach them if you need help and you will see that they are not as bad as you think they are...

They're not snobby, they're just not acting on the same level as their students.
