Some hints: The US military was fighting a major insurgency with terrorists and the country was also in the middle of a civil war. Everyone thought that if the US left this country the entire region would fall into chaos & war but it never happened. Instead the US fought a decade long war that accomplished nothing and tragically killed over 50,000 US troops.

Bush just signed Vietnam into the WTO which means they will be a major US trading partner very soon. 20 years ago if you had asked any US Govt. official that Vietnam would have normal relations with the US they would say you are insane. Kind of like if you ask a US Govt. official about Iraq right now. But just like at the end of the Vietnam war in which most conservatives thought the commies would take over not just Vietnam but start wars all over Southeast Asia & the whole thing would be a bloody, chaotic mess (kind of what they think will happen in Iraq/Mideast) once the US military left Vietnam things eventually calmed down, order was restored, they bought back Capitalism, & are now US trading partners. It just shows that sometimes invading countries (even with the best intentions) can cause much more harm than good but leaving can solve all the problems that they invasion caused. Something Bush might want to consider when making his decision on what to do in Iraq.

we are not a major trading partner with vietnam (yet).
The only thing i have ever bought that had a "made in vietnam" label on it was a #2 pencil. The wood from the pencil still had bits of shrapnel and agent orange in it too.

which would have killed twice that many if NIXON wouldn't have withdrawn US troops.
anyone who calls the deaths of 50,000 a cut and run, shouldn't consider themselves anything but a traitor to the USA! Must have got that idea from Bush's speech while he was marching around in front of the vietnam army huh?

You know, when you join the military ( or get drafted ) you lose your constitutional rights and then the Uniform Code of Military Justice takes it's place.... You don't get to quit if your boss pisses you off, or if people who look like friends decide to shoot at you... You have every right to be upset with the government... as we all do...but not to belittle the men and women who have given their lives to do what they are told has to be done... Sometimes you have to do things that are not popular or deemed right by some people as part of the duty you have sworn to upkeep... What do you think people over there think about your opening statement ??? They are delighted that you would pubicly denounce your country...How would you feel if the people you were defending were the first ones to disrespect what you are trying to do???What do you think our men and women over there think about it??? Right or wrong, the people in the military are there to sacrifice themselves, if necessary, to protect our freedom.. and our interests, which are yours too, if you did not know... I find your statement demeaning, demoralizing, and asinine. CUT AND RAN !!?? Stop in the local VFW and tell them all about it, if you have the balls !!! See who cuts and runs then ....

If you are suggesting Viet Nam then you are very wrong about nothing happening when U.S. left. but I guess it depends on what side you were rooting for now doesn't it? The outcome of Americans leaving Nam was the beginning of "handling war by politically correct leaders" and it's a shame. If truman was president now he would be hung before Saddam by todays standards. America is the evil of the world not terrorits who blow up anyone they can and cut peoples heads off but not before they cut their private parts off and shove them down their thoroats. We are more evil by far after catching them and then putting them in prisons like club gitmo. Why how dare we give them new prayer rugs and feed them better then they got feed at home? We should let them go even if they were caught on the battlefield or in a town square somewhere trying to blow up women and children. They diddn't mean it we can talk to them hold hands and sing kumbiya! Yeah buddy lol By the way what country are you talking about that we are going to cut and run from at least before the 08 elections?

It's all about money-- the propaganda terms have always been the same since Columbus got lost and annihilated the natives in the Americas. (Because they were terrorists)
What's wrong with Americans that they can see the historical thread?

Vietnam. We apologized and now all is forgotten, except for the baby boomers (Worst Generation Ever) still sucking off the teat and accomplishments of their parents - The Greatest Generation.
Don't worry grandpas of America, we WILL strip the ungrateful washout babyboomers of the entitlements they so greedily and babyishly demand.
