If it's your first time you would probably be best to get a eyebrow shape and wax at the salon. Ask them to talk you through what they are doing.
But if you do want to do it yourself, it's not too difficult. Every eybrow has a natural shape, take a darker eyebrow pencil and draw a line through the middle of your brow following the main shape of the brow. This will give you a guide line. Firstly pluck away the stray hairs not part of the actual brow this will give you a clean start.
To get the correct length of eyebrow take a pencil and hold it against your nose, make a mark, this is were your brow should begin. Then take the pencil and place it diagonally touching the side of your nose to outer side of the eye, were the pencil meets the brow this is the end point of the brow. Mark.
Decide how thick you want the brow, start lightly, don't take too much to begin with. Full natural brows are best.
Pluck underneath the brow, NEVER above. Follow the shape of the natural brow line.
Make sure both brows are even and are the same. Take your time.
Good Luck :-)

I prefer to do it myself because the natural shape of mine is quite clear. I basically only pluck away the stray hairs that are on their own above or below the rest.
But if yours are quite bushy then you'd probably be best off going to a salon the first time. You could do them at home after that by just taking out the hairs growing in the wrong place.
A couple of warnings though. Firstly, choose your salon carefully. A girl I went to school with had hers done professionally and they turned into these really thin little things that looked terrible. And secondly, once you start, you have to maintain them regularly otherwise it looks really bad while they grow back into their natural shape.

While it would be best to go to a salon, if you are as broke as I am that may not be an option. The make-up lady from What Not To Wear (Carmondy, I think) says to put a eyebrow pencil from the bridge of your nose to the corner of your eye, anything that is showing on the side closest to your nose pluck. I wouldn't worry about plucking unless you have a uni-brow though.

Get it done in a salon the first time. When the hairs regrow pluck them at around 0.5mm to 1mm. This will keep the brows as the salon shaped them.

I pluck my eyebrows sometimes. A salon is better, but it can get expensive, and you can't go there constantly. Get a good pair of tweezers, and go into a brightly lit room with a good, close mirror. And...pluck! It will hurt at first a little, but you'll get used to it eventually. Just remember to not overdo it. You still want it to look natural.

The best thing is to get them threaded,of course,IN A SALON less painfull and more effective, the shapes that best suits your face will be determined by a specialist IN THE SALON,you will be able to determine how often, your self, when you study how fast your hair grows there bcause not everybodys hair grow at the same rate.

just never ever EVER pluck above the natural shape of your brow. It might b better to go to a salon to get them shaped for the first time and then all you have to do is the odd tidy up.

Here are the best sites and a great brow kit from Sephora (best one I've found). It's ok to splurge on this - good brows drastically improve your complexion and make your eyes appear brighter and bigger. Don't pluck them wire thin! That's why you have those templates that show exactly how big. Numb your brows with ice afterwards if they're hurting a little, and do it at night to get rid of redness before going to work or somewhere.

Jane, Go to a beauty salon, they can suggest a few shapes, buy a pair of tweezers, you might get a few hairs growing back in between your next appointment to get them reshaped again.
Normally 3 weeks is the about the time it will take before eyebrow hair will grow back.

Well I only tweeze when I don't have time to go to the salon... You can either get your eyebrows waxed, or threaded by a professional, that way they will shape them for you... Then if you want to tweeze as the unwanted hair grows back between your professional visits, or even if self-tweezing will become your method of choice, you can do that.
