I got some borders gift cards for christmas and I was wondering if I can use them online

It depends on the site, look around and see if they accept the gift card in there checkout process or maybe you can call the store.

Yeah you'll be able to use it, but keep in mind you'll also pay for shipping charges if you order online which will make the amount you can spend on the gift card a little smaller (probably 5-10 bucks) depending on what you order.
It will ask you for the gift card pin number during the payment process.
