I see that as a possibility. I once thought that RJ would retire, but maybe not. I really don't think that Cashman is courting Zito, simply because of the 6 year contract Zito wants. I read that Roger is planning on donning the interlocking NY when the day comes he is inducted into the Hall (premature yes, but also inevitable) so coming back to NY for a year, wouldn't be an impossibility.
I hope he does, for I have always liked the Roger Clemens

No getting rid of Johnson is just an unloading cash move so they can cut payroll to spend it on something better ....for the whole season getting rid of Sheffield made it possible for the yanks to sign Pettitte getting rid of Johnson gives them the cash to get Zito while maintaining the same payroll roughly as last year. The only way i see the yankees getting Clemens is mid season while Pavano is sitting out with a black eye or something.

yeah, i think it may be possible they trade johnson and sign clemens. some have suggested they might persue zito if trading johnson, but i dont think they are looking to spend that much long term right now. clemens would just be one year at a time.
to the poster who mentioned about clemens "planning" on donning the yankees cap in the hall of fame........it doesnt work that way anymore, the hall of fame decides what hat goes on a players plaque. they will consider a players wishes but the decision will not always be what the players wishes are.....case in point is gary carter a couple of years ago....he would have preferred to go in as a met, but the hall decided he would go in as an expo.

Opens the door for Roger's return or opens the door to spend big money on Barry Zito. Possibly opens the door for Humberto Sanchez or Phillip Hughes.

I hope so..I'm a huge Yankee fan..Johnson may be traded to either San Diego or Arizona..If traded to San Diego the Yankees wld probably bring in Scott Linebrink and some prospects

Yes, Clemens has an apparent man-crush on his buddy Pettite and will probably join him playing in NY.
Now the good news is that Clemens will probably get hammered by the far superior hitters he will face in the AL East.

I think that is what it means. I hope the rocket does come back. I'll miss RJ though.

Didn't Clemens say he wanted to be close to home, and want to stay with the Astros?
