An OB is an actual doctor. They use pain meds and machinery to help you with your labor. A midwife is not a doctor. She is just a person trained in delivery and using pain management techniques other than medicine. If you have an uneventful pregnancy and delivery, a midwife is fine, but if you have a problem pregnancy or are concerned about safety issues during labor, an OB is the way to go.

nothing is different. Iam only seeing a midwife and not a doctor at all. The only time i get a doctor is if my delivery goes askew and they call one in.
Midwives provide a much more natural approach, better more contructive care, and are just generally better than doctors.
midwives believe having babies is a natural process, that you body does it best when closely monitored, where as doctors believe it is a medical procedure that needs their direct intervention.
I'd never see an OB. I'd only see a midwife for my OB/GYN needs.
I hated seeing my old OB. I wish I had known sooner that I could have a midwife instead.
All midwives that practice in offices must be credited nurses with medical training.

A midwife is only for pregnancy and delivery and an Ob is for overall female care. Also midwives usually work under a doctor. I use the midwives in my practice because they are nicer and work with you more during labor and delivery and the doctor never seems to have enough time for you. If you have a high risk pregnancy you usually are required to use an OB.

That is very common. Most women see a midwife first and then if everything is normal, you will see the ob later on. Possibly at the next appointment...or it could be a couple of months. It is not uncommon for a woman to see the midwife through most of her pregnancy as long as it is normal....and only see the doctor a couple of times...and then at birth.
If you are not comfortable with that though...you can request to see your doctor only.
I have done it both ways...either one is good.

A midwife has a degree, usually a masters, in midwifery. This includes, general women's healthcare including physical and gynecological exams, management of gyn problems, family planning, prenatal and obstetrical care. Some midwives specialize in home births, but 95% deliver in hospitals.
OB/gyns have medical degrees, so have a broader medical base, and perform surgery as well.
Midwives manage many problems in pregnancy and labor, and always have medical back-up available if a medical or surgical emergency arises.
They utilize a variety of methods of pain relief, including medications. They have more training in facilitating a 'natural' birth than an obstetrician would have.
At your first visit, she will take a complete history and do a complete physical exam, including a pelvic exam. If you are far enough along, she will listen to the baby's heart. You will also have blood drawn.

The ob should be an acutual doctor. A midwife is a person certified in midwifery, helping with the act of having the baby. Sort of like a nurse but not a nurse, they only do baby work.

A midwife is a trained professional in women's care during pregnancy and can perform most tasks necissary to insure health and safety. They are particularly trained better in labor and deliovery for less invasive procedures to be taken. An OB is a dr.they can do all above but also perform surgery in needed.

A midwife doesn't have the expensive degree and medical certification that an OB has. A midwife is just as capable and knowledgeable enough to deliver your baby. It is also a more personal experience (not that I've had).

I go to 3 midwives. They are in the office together. I have seen them throughout my whole pregnancy and love them. The only time you see the OB is when there is something wrong during the pregnancy or while giving birth.

An OB is a medical doctor and graduated from medical school.
A midwife usually has a degree (Master's, hopefully), but she's not a medical doctor. She specializes in midwifery.
You'll probably get better attention from a well-trained midwife in aspects of childbirth that include non-medical ones.
