Assuming you are running a Windows XP based PC:

You'll need to install the free web browser Firefox.

Then install the Video Downloader plug in. This will allow you to save the YouTube flash video file.

GET A FLV PLAYER

Then download and install 'SUPER' video converter by eRightSoft. This utilty will allow you convert a flash video file to a video format of your choice.

You absolutely CAN download vids from youtube and probably already have. Check your "Temporary Internet Files" directory and it should be in there. Note the alpha-numberic ID each vid has that will be in your browser's address window when viewing at youtube (it follows "="). This will be the file name in the TIF directory.

As already mentioned, the Firefox extension does work well. You can also enter the url of the vid at www.keepvid.com and it will download the file to your computer. The previously mentioned VLC media player is excellent. This video is flash (.flv) and can be converted to avi. I use CinemaForge 2.0.5. The link is below.

If you use Firefox 2.0, you can download a extension called Video Downloader. This extension will allows you to download movies from YouTube and other sites.

You cant. You can only link it to a myspace or blog, but you cant do anything except for that on youtube. I think there are some screen capture software out there, but iam no expert on it so beware.
