I wish I knew the answer to that because I am in a union and it sucks. I had to wait a year just to get my benefits and the pay sucks too. So much for union is better...

Initially the unions were great. But as all things go, they priced themselves out of the labor market. Why pay salaries, health benefits, dental benefits, retirement benefits, cost of living raises, longevity raises and receive a half *#s'd product in return. This is why jobs are out sourced to other countries. Americans don't want to work. Here in New Orleans, 18 months after the storm the work force is primarily from Mexico or South America. They will do the manual labor jobs for half the price and no benefits. We tried to hire local talent but they didn't want to do quality work for the money, and I mean good money. If Americans would work here for the next 24 months and do good work they could retire at the end of 2 years.
You talk about job security, well, 20 years ago a man put in 8 hours of work and it was good quality work. Now, everyone wants to put in 5 hours, get paid for 8 hours and not do good quality work. Out sourcing is the key and we have done it to ourselves.

Your conclusions are not based on facts. The average worker today makes more money and has far more benefits than a few years ago. NO THANKS TO UNIONS OR THE GOVERNMENT....
Labor unions do hot help you get higher wadges. They FORCE companies to pay more for your services. Indoing so fewer people are hired. Do not think for ONE minute that any labor union has your best interest in mind.
I was part of a union once and got lay off they came up with some stupid excuse as to why we were not given our benefits during the layoff period. When I asked why was I a part of a union that didn't take care of it's people I was escorted out of the room. So much for the Union comeing to my aid. I spend 5 years paying 10% of my gross salary and got ZERO in return.
Since I refuse to get involved with unions I have made more money and have higher benefits. This is the normal case.

Let's be clear, the only purpose of monopoly labor (a.k.a. unions) is to hold businesses hostage and to STEAL money from consumers. Industries that fell into the grip of unions are paying a steep price today as they implode and unionists lose their jobs, which is entirely overdue. Today's unemployed unionists should understand that they were totally screwed by their greedy unionist fathers and grandfathers. A union in a protected industry can hold off reality for a generation or two, but not forever. There's no such thing as a free lunch.

This question was apparently askedby a union recruiter, since the statement that wages are lower now than back 20 years ago is flatly wrong. According to statistics, wages for union and non-union workers are now 27.5 percent higher than they were in 1985.

Unions did as quickly as upon a time serve a sturdy purpose. with out unions we likely could never had a minimum salary, holiday trips, 40hr artwork week, and a brilliant form of different advantages. even nonetheless, as they have stepped forward, unions have outlived their usefulness. Ever increaseingly unions have become greater militant. i could admit that i became a union member. I joined a union whilst i became 18yrs. previous and prefer maximum babies in that era nonetheless respected and regarded as much as my elders. I common that any non union individual became below I and gave no theory to the reality that they have got been human beings basically like me. working to help their family participants. Time and time returned, I knew non union worker who wanted to connect our union. The leaders have been basically fascinated if their total company went union. regardless of if each and all the workers wanted to connect the union, they weren't common till their corporation signed a union settlement. of course, lots of the companies they worked for have been small and could no longer cope with to pay for to pay the union advantages. So those workers, who had campaigned for union club, have been often disregarded in the chilly with neither a union or non-union interest. those practices is what has led to the dying of unions. it somewhat is an absolute shame that the management of those companies nonetheless carry to 1950's concepts and refuse to alter. the end result's many sturdy paying union jobs are long previous. Your question is incorrect once you consult with unions as prepared crime because of the fact, like all employer, there are some incorrect yet there has been a brilliant form of sturdy. i could debate all day with you appropriate to the professionals and cons of unionism yet this is for yet another day.

Of course it isn't the labor unions.
The government has tried to control the unions and stop people from joining them.
It's the government who has screwed it all up.
