If you have an xbox live account and if you have the 3 red lights of doom, or if you notice that your 360 starts freezing soon you will soon be ****** :/ because it's going to get the 3 red lights of doom permanently unfortunatly. If you do have the xbox live account then that can be the main reason for this, a lot of consoles have been having problems after the Fall Update (mine included) and they've been getting the 3 red lights of death or getting "bricked" and just recently Microsoft has said they'll refund all the money and fix ours for free and they made the 1 extended year warranty all because of that problem. But they still haven't fixed the fall update problem yet, so if yours dies and you have an account just letting you know one of the main reasons it could be.
Make sure to get warranty on it, I would try to get the instore warranty from wherever you bought it from. They'll replace it for a new one that day if it breaks in the store, Microsoft you have to wait weeks and they replace it with a refurbished one that's not even yours and they break multiple times. :/

It depends on how many lights there are. Here's the official manual's voice on this:
Ring of Light Flashes
The lights in the console Ring of Light should glow solid while the console is on and flash when you press the eject button. If the Ring of Light flashes differently during operation, the console has an internal problem:
• Four lights on console flash red: Check your AV cable.
• Two left lights on console flash red: The console is too hot and will not play games until cooled down. Place the console in a well-ventilated area away from other heat sources. Once the consolecools, the flashing will stop and the Xbox 360 console can be played. For more information, see "Select a Location for the Xbox 360 Console" on page ??.
• Four lights on controller periodically flash green: No Ring of Light quadrant assignment. The controller is not connected or all four quadrants are full.
• All other patterns: Internal problem requires service. Contact Xbox Customer Support at the phone number on the back cover of this manual.
Which is...looking like it's 800-4MY-XBOX

Yes, I remember having the same problem.
I turned it off for a few hours and it was ok again. I think my 360 got too hot. Buy a fan. Also only operate it in a well ventilated area!
Good luck.
