Normally it is Urine, blood tests and thats about it on your 1st visit.

If your not sure about your family history dont worry - normally its just immediate family anyway - you, dad, parents on both sides and siblings. Just say you dont know - honesty is the best policy

Your first prenantal visit will be like any other doctor's appointment. They'll ask you a million questions and weigh you. Most doctors don't even do a pregnancy test to confirm the pregnancy. They will give you an estimated due date based on the first day of your last menstruation. As for your family history, the doctor will offer you test during the term of your pregnancy that can determine any diformities or diseases before the baby is born. This will help them to better deliver your baby should there be any concern. The tests, other than the glucose and the Strep B and some routine blood test are optional.

I strongly suggest that if you have any questions that you write them down and ask everything at your appointment. You'll be out of there in the blink of an eye if you have no questions and there's nothing to discuss. You'll wait longer to be seen. Oh, and no question is a stupid question. Ask whatever you want.

ok its been over 13 years since i had to do this and that.
1st off have you seen the doc yet?
then it will be just basic questions.. such as what your health is like, what your eating habits are, weight. stuff such as that,
and with the family history... if you know your parents history at all then they might ask about if they are deceased what from, things like that. if you know none of that tell them, i don't know. if you feel you need to explain why you don't have that information then its up to you. they will also ask when you last cycle was if you have a regular cycle things like that,, some docs will do a pelvic that's up to the doc, they should then figure out a possible due date..
may i suggest bringing the baby's father with? it will help for family history on his side
blood test.. that could very on checking blood sugars things like that..
like i said its been a long time, but i don't think the first visit changes much

On first visit there is usually a pelvic exam, and possibly a vaginal ultrasound to verify fetal age. Every doctor is different in what exactly they do, but basicall that is it. Also possibly a diabetes test, especially if you don't know family history. Don't worry if you don't know, just think of how many women who are adopted have no idea about theirs! Just be honest about all questions with the doctor, and ask any questions you have, even the ones you think are totally stupid, the only stupid ones are the ones you don't ask! Congratulations!!! Heres to a short painless labor and a healthy happy baby!

It is ok if you don't know all your family history.

For your first visit where you actually see the dr. you can expect a pap smear, pelvic exam, blood drawings, weight and all that stuff. Alot of questions.

That is pretty much it.

Guessing you are pregnant. Your first visit they will draw lots of blood, I don't know all the tests, but they do them all from the one blood draw. As for your family medical history, if you don't know it then you don't know it. Nothing you can do I guess. If you are due for a pap they will do one on your first or second visit. Congrats.

You can expect a "pee" test and a pelvic exam. He/She will give you vitamins and lots of pamphlets. (some useful, some not). It would help to know some family background but you just make a list of anything that's wrong with you (allergies, diabetes, etc.) take it with you and be completely honest with the doctor and ask any questions you have. Be satisfied with the answer before you let him/her out of your room. It doesn't matter what he or she thinks. Its your body and your baby.

You'll get a blood test and a urine test.
You'll be weighed.
Depending on how far along you are, they might try to find the heartbeat with doppler.
If you don't know your family medical history, just share whatever you do know.

Hope luck will be on your side and you will not wait 1,5 hour for you temp and blood pressure be checked.
And finding out your medical history would be your asset, not liability.
Remember - you are entitled to your own decision, to ask for 2nd opinion, to be angry at your doctor, and to show him/her a middle finger ( that means that some group of muscles of your right arm is working properly.)
