My one month old daughter seems to want to be awake for hours at a time. I've been told that a baby of this age should be awake for a max of 2 hours at a time! I feel like I'm doing something terribly wrong... My daughter normally wants to be awake from around 8am to 12 or 1pm. She will then go down until around 4pm, and wake up for a feed. Going down again, we wake her at 8pm for another feed. She then generally has a longer sleep, normally lasting until 1am, and then wakes up at around 4.30, and then again at 8. Is this normal?

At a month old all a baby does is eat, sleep, and mess their diapers. The periods of wakefulness vary from infant to infant. You are lucky that your child appears to be awake during the day instead of from 1:00 AM til 5:00 AM. At least she doesn't have her days and nights mixed up.

You know that is what my daughter did too. She stayed up in the moring after she got up from her nights sleep. She got up around 7-8 and stayed up until 12 and then back to sleep for a while.

Of course she didn't sleep at night like i wanted her too.

That sounds so normal its crazy~~
My duaghter is on a crazy schedule almost exact

It sounds like she has a pattern set, already. Most babies have to be encouraged to get in a pattern, feel fortunate. I wouldn't worry to much about the length of time between naps. My daughter was two weeks over-due and she stayed awake longer periods of time then my son that was on-time for his due date.

Babies will sleep and wake whenever they want. My 1 month old has days where she is awake more than others. It's normal don't worry about her sleeping pattern if she is tired she will sleep.

go with the flow....as long as you aren't dragging her to the malls and keeping her overstimulated! My little guy was sleeping through the night by the end of July (almost 2 months old) and he had a very child centered life (still does)....Enjoy the long stretches of sleep!

If every baby was the same, they would hand you a manual when you left the hospital. Babies sleep when they need to. I wouldnt worry.
