If your using those cheap Land Wi-Fi (Which spread the Internet) then this will occur, if not, someone is using your Internet. Put a security code for your Internet Connection. If your landwi is not secured other people can easily connect to it and use it, which will slow down your Internet.

It can sometimes depend where you are accessing the wireless from. If the signal has to go through walls or the distance between the computer and the router is too far, the signal will lose strength. If you are near the router and it still has a bad signal, maybe you could try to update the drivers for your wireless card.

Move the Laptop closer to the source or hardwire it. Those are your two options. Wireless internet is like a cell phone-- Handy as hell, but you don't always get a great signal and are bound to get a dropped call every now and again. If you move closer to your wireless router you should be a little better. If it's still giving you problems, I'd consider hardwire.

Make sure you are connecting to your own network and not the neighbor's. That would account for the weak signal and dropouts if it was strong with your last computer. Right click on the wireless icon in the system tray and select "View available wireless networks" to check.

If your signal is coming from your house, you may have a bad signal or too many electronic interferences. Buy a signal booster to try and help you with this.

It's probably not your laptop, but your internet service. If you can try hooking up to the modem directly instead of connecting wirelessly to see if there is much of a difference. It could just be your ISP.
