First thing you can do is run spyware/virus checkers to remove all that you dont want.

Second you can run Disk Defragmenter and Disk Cleanup to make more space and clean a little more.

Third, you can upgrade your hardware, by adding new memory etc.

Have you ran the defrag and dick clean up on it? I have to do this about once a week, sometimes more often. Also, delete and ramove programs and stuff you aren't using, then run the defrag in the tools on your computer. This will take a long time if you haven't done it in a while. It makes sure things are put back in order and allows your computer to run more effeciently. I do mine at night when I am in bed. Then you can see what this does. It can't hurt. It always makes mine faster. You could have a virus slowing you down, be sure to run your virus scan every day...it will make sure that you don'e pick up any viruses. There are hundreds out there. Make sure to take off any junk you don't use and pictures and graphics take up a lot of space.Make sure nothing else is running when you do the defrag and disk clean up. Good luck.

The cheapest way is usually more RAM.
But you can also reduce the number of programs that run in the background.
Having all that stuff load at startup may make it start a little quicker when you want it, but can really slow you down.
Run a good antispyware scanner, in Safe Mode.
Same with AntiVirus.
Remove everything that is not necessary from Start>Programs>Startup.
If you move them to the Programs menu, you can start them as needed.
Some start without being listed in the Startup folder.
Click Start>RUN
type in MSCONFIG
on the next screen, click the startup tab
uncheck the boxes for things that don't need to run at startup.
If something doesn't work, you can always go back and recheck it later.

Working with a slow computer can be time consuming as programs/ applications take a long time to start. This problem is more pronounced in computers which have been used for 6 or more months. More information at http://fixit.in/slowcomputer.html

- Many users are not aware of how much RAM is used by wallpaper and a screensaver full of graphics -- they run in the background and eat memory.
- How many programs do you load at startup? Maybe you should check it out and ensure you are running just what you need.
To do this: cl Start, cl Settings, cl Taskbar and Start Menu.
-cl Start Menu, cl Customize, cl Remove.
-cl the icon for the program you wish to remove
-then cl Remove.
-This will prevent the program from loading at startup, but will not remove the program from the hard disk.
-Are you in a large file? If so, save frequently to restore full memory access. (Your work remains in memory until you “save” it to disk.)

1.Did you run an error check? Open My Computer,
Right-cl on C:, Select Properties, Tools – Run an Error Check ( checkmark “check all and fix); then run a Defrag

2.Are you using Yahoo Toolbar? Run a full Norton Antispy.

3.From IE, click Tools, Internet Options
delete cookies
delete files (offline files)
clear history (set days to save to 0 if you want)
click o.k., and Restart

3.click Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools – run Disk Cleanup

4.click Start, Run ipconfig renew (type ipconfig space renew)

All these things should be done regularly. The more frequently they are run, the less time they take.
-Note: Games and videos are mostly graphics. Graphics create large files. If this doesn’t help, you should consider getting more memory.

Speed is not a determining factor for performance like it used to be. How RAM is utilized, system configuration and the function of the computer are just as important as the processor speed.
Obtaining peak computer performance is not unlike buliding a race car in that you need to how certain systems work to improve them, You need to understand the fundamentals of computer architechture, harware capabilities and software functionality.

you can do several things

you can "De-Frag" your hard drive by either using the microsoft version of the program process by left clickin on start>run>defrag

Or you could do the right thing and spend a little bit money and buy IOLO's System mechanic the program optimizes and rearranges your hard disk (the place where all your data is stored..think of it as the soul of your computer)
think of it as a little tidy'n up
the program also can increase your internet speed by a significant margin

There are many other tools that come with it and it only cost about sixty dollars

Other options are deleting unwanted programs ,running spyware\adware\malware\virus scans, increasing ram ,uprgrading other hardware (CPU , Hard - disk- drive)
