It was the Triwizard Tournament Champion Trophy, like a cup. But it was transformed into a portkey by Professor Moody (aka Barty Crouch Jr), in order to take Harry to Voldemort's father's graveyard to perform the magic to get his body back. Cedric was taken along because they had decided to take the cup together, tying for the championship. Something Harry felt extremely guilty about later!

It was the Triwizard cup. Somehow, the cup was a portkey that brought Harry and Cedric to the graveyard where Cedric was killed by Voldemort when The Dark Lord was reborn.
