Why do we need humans to collect and send data from outer space when we can just send light signals and interpret the data?

Why doesn't NASA send LASER or robots or machines instead of humans on space missions?

NASA already does send automated probes out to various planets and other bodies in the Solar System. The equipment on these probes do collect information across the electromagnetic spectrum as well as measure magnetic fields and other phoenomenon.

However, we have not yet created a computer that can be flexible enough in thought to replace a human. Having investigators on-site, as it were, allows for a wider range of investigations. Also, equipment can be repaired or adapted as needed.

There's also a certain amount of the sense of exploration, of pushing the frontiers that no robotic exploration can do. That's why people have gone into the depths of the oceans or tried to travel faster than anyone else or gone boldly ... You get the idea.

NASA can do that. They are already doing that. They do it in addition to sending up people. So your real question is, why bother sending people at all. I say, because people, me for example, really want to go. It is nice to see pictures of Mars. It would be nicer to see pictured of people on Mars. It would be nicest of all to see Mars in person myself.

So, there is no need. Not today anyway. Just like there is no need for art, music or football. All we really need is food and clothes. Not even clothes in warm climates.

Or would you like to swing on a star?
Carry moonbeams home in a jar.
And be better off than you are.
Or would you rather be a (fill in the blank).

Why do you think NASA is not doing it ? The first missions (to space, moon, mars, etc), all hae been using robots only. NASA did not send people to moon until umpteen unmanned or robotic missions.
