I was watching Saving Private Ryan (the movie). Its based on World War II. They always use this word in the movie and say that its a German word. Anyone knows what does that mean?

Not German. It's an acrynym for "F***ed Up Beyond All Repair", the general state of most battle plans after the first shot is fired. If you had watched the movie carefully the menaing is explained to the translator about 2/3 of the way through the movie.

Like everything in the military, it's an acronym. It stands for "F'd up beyond all recognition".

Since computer scientists speak in acronyms too, they have adopted it. It is spelled "foo bar" in computer science. Foo and bar are just variables though.

I tried to find the translation via the link below...but I think FUBAR does not exist as a German word. Maybe it's under a different spelling?
