I know of a few warning signs, if the organization:

1-tells people to cut off ties to family and friends who oppose their membership in the organization
2-requires members of the group of give them money
3-preaches extreme or "too good to be true" scenarios
4-is secretive and requires a person to "not tell" outside people what goes on in the organization
5- requires a member recruit others
6- has a manipulative and charismatic leader who seems to have the answers to every question, and who discourages doubt in their teachings.

There are 2 main signs. One is that it's organised around a leader who claims to have personal and exclusive communication with God, and the other that it will isolate it's members from their families.

Primarily- they don't want you thinking for yourself. People that do can't be manipulated very easy, and that doesn't fit in the cult culture.

Surprising how many cults there are, isn't it?

When they ask for all your money or tell you that you have to pool your income with the group.
When you are not allowed to worship God-- all worship is to an earthly person
When you are not allowed to contact your family outside of the group
If any of these conditions are present, please do NOT join this group no matter what they call themselves.

When they talk about a leader and are not refering to "God", clothes that look alike. Starvation, constant "role playing".

Hope someone you know has not joined...it is difficult for some people to see them, especially if they are very trusting people.
