I've heard there's a new product on the market. My baby is 8 months already and hasn't received it. A magazine says that 100% of all kids contract this disease before they turn 5. Generally I wouldn't want to go for it, but the numbers are confusing.

What do you think?
Thanks.

Here is a link to the article on rotavirus.

Not EVERY child will get it by age 5 but MOST will. I nursed my kids and my oldest got it at age 2. He started vomiting and diarrhea in the morning. By noon he was admitted in the hospital. He was very lethargic and couldn't even hold water down. This virus is brutal and shouldn't be taken lightly. It kills 300,000 babies worldwide. If this ORAL vaccination is given, it could be virtually non existent.

By the way, my kids have never been in day care. They are around other kids though as I will not put them in a bubble for fear of them getting sick.

I would do research on it first. When my daughter was little, they had a similar vaccine, and I didnt let them give it to her because of it being so new. Later, I found out from the dr., that they stopped it because it was causing bowel obstruction in babies. I dont like this new stuff. I would just keep her out of stores and not let her around people with fever and vomiting. THe older she gets, the more she'll be able to tolerate having it.

The last one was pulled because of intussusception. I don't personally vaccinate for anything (yes you can not vax), this is number 34965675396 I don't vaccinate. It hasn't been on the market that long, so I wouldn't trust it anyways. Just be sure to eat healthy and you'll be fine.
here's some stats for it, seems like the vaxed babies get sicker
The following adverse events were reported more often in infants who received RotaTeq when compared with infants who received placebo: diarrhea (24.1% in vaccine recipients versus 21.3% in those receiving placebo), vomiting (15.2% versus 13.6%), ear infection (14.5% versus 13.0%), runny nose and sore throat (6.9% versus 5.8%), and wheezing and coughing (1.1% versus 0.7%).

My kids are almost 4 years, almost 6 years and almost 8 years.
None have been vax'd for this.
I don't think any of them have ever been ill with rotavirus either.
Yes, it is a common illness. Teaching good hygeine, long term breastfeeding, and avoiding putting your child in daycare help prevent it too.
