Ingredients for successful sports:

1. Make sure it's fun, can be enjoyed across age groups, and does not discriminate in any way.
2. Word-of-mouth: Assuming this game is fun, you should bring it to the attention of your friends and family. They will do the same.
3. Post illustrations and explanations online, and in other media.
4. Watch the sport grow!

Congratulations.

You should actively play the sport, have your friends play it, and as many people as you can attract. If there is a way you can put together a league then you should consider that. If it's truly a fun sport then interest will become exponential through word of mouth. Advertising is also an idea.

I think the key to the popularity of your sport will be in whether or not it's something that people will want to watch as well as play. Your sport may be fun, but will I want to watch your team on tv? Croquet is fun. But you're not going to catch me leaving work early to catch the playoffs of the World Series of Croquet.

But then again, there is televised bowling, fishing and curling. Anything can happen. You've got me curious about your new sport.

Sports are usually made popular because they've been carried on by tradition. I guess ancient people saw a sport being played, thought it'd be fun to try it themselves, and the process repeats itself. If you want your sport to "catch on", play it with your friends -- they'll tell their other friends about it and so on and so on.

simple yet strategy can be formed.

but, however good your game is, it will never get as good as those. look at lacrosse. its been around for ages, and yet only pac 10 and other superior colleges play it in an actual league (plus some certain east coast high schools).

its great that you were creative enough to do this, but unless you can get every kid in America to get a hold of it, it wont go very far.

word of mouth is your best friend in this case.
