if it's a downward change, sometimes i feel helpless and i want to help--but i understand that people need their space and their time. assuming i'm not the one that put them in that mood, i try not to take it personally.

It depends. If it's a friend and if they seem to be in a bad mood, I try to cheer them up or ask them if they have a problem. I'd want them to do the same to me. Sometimes things happen that changes our ways of acting. If it's a chronic thing where someone is just a jerk for a long period of time, I just assume that that's the way they are. I won't avoid them, but I will keep them at an arm's length. If it's a temporary thing, I wait until they change into a better, more positive mood.

I used to when I was a child. Especially my Mom. I could always seem to "feel" what moods people were in (still can) and I used to think I was the cause a lot of the time. I've gotten past that, thankfully!

Yeah sometimes...
I just hate feeling as though i may have been the cause of something like a mood change from happy to sad.

No. If you came up to me, puched me in the face, and called me a derogatory name, I still wouldn't take it personally. People act on impulse. I know from past experience that things said or done while in "moods" will eventually be regretted.

That depends. If the change in their mood suddenly has them taking their mood out on me, you bet I do!

I've got nothing! Sorry most of the time I try to cheer someone up who is having a bad day! But today I can't get myself out of my own sadness.

I only take it personally if I do something to make them feel better. If someone decides that they want to go around and act as if they're bi-polar, that's not my fault.

Only the closest of the close..when I feel like I perhaps have done something and they just won't tell me what I did.

Not on purpose. But insecurity naturally causes such a response, and all too often.
