I chose eharmony and will be getting married in a few months.
Eharmony is set up to match people on personality rather than just a photo. It allows you and the prospective date choose the level and time frame of communication. It helps to know if someone will match on a more personal level than just the packaging.
Many sites such as Yahoo cater to those wanting a quick hook-up. Match.com has gotten better since Dr. Phil signed on, but everything that match is trying to do now, eharmony already did.
Another site is tableforsix.com. This web site caters to busy professionals and you essentially meet with 5 others for dinner.
I may be biased because I found my wonderful fiance on eharmony, but I have other colleagues who have done the same and are equally happy.

I tried plentyoffish.com, match.com, and eharmony.com.
While I had a ton of matches and quite a few "interesting" dates - the quality of women was VERY low. I felt ripped off by all but POF (since it's free).
Anyone I've ever been serious with including my current girlfriend I met the old fashioned way - through a friend.
It's kinda like finding a job - the best ones you find through networking, not on monster.com.

P.S - how well you'll do depends on if you're in a large city or not. Oh and one other thing - depending on your age, myspace is also a great way to meet a girl through friends. It's kinda like the old fashioned way with a technology twist.

I've heard that eharm... is great for guys looking for women. Not so great from women looking for a guy. It seems that guys that sign up on that site are more interested in settling down and are willing to go through the process and the steps to meet someone. The advantage is, there are far more women on that site than men. I know a guy that had 100 matches in one month!!! Insane.
