If it's new work all you need is a license and that's just a simple fee and insurance. Any home repair is considered remodeling and you have to take a state test, apply for a insurance No. and be fully insured. Here in Maryland you need 250,000 $ worth of insurance and must carry workers comp.

Depending on where you live, you only need a business permit. You generally go to your main county court house to get this. (call first to see what you need to bring, usually you just need some form of ID). The fee ranges but is usually around $50.00 or less. You will probably want to be a sole proprietor so you can use your social security # for tax purposes. You can also get all of this information from your county court house, they will probably have flyers. You can also benefit by checking out this government website; http://workforcesecurity.doleta.gov/unemploy/self.asp
In addition, you will need to come up with a name for your business (or just use your name...Joe Smith Repairs) as you will need it for the business permit. Once you've gotten your permit order some low cost business cards and start posting them at local building supply stores as most have cork boards where customers can tack them. Then, if money permits, advertise in the local classifieds or in the local Pennysaver paper (free local papers). I am thinking that the online thing isn't really going to work...I doubt people will want to email you to request repairs. Most will want to call you on the phone. You may find that a lot of your customers may be elderly people who can no longer tend to their own repairs...and many may not even have computers. You could put an email address on your business cards but I would definitely include a phone number too. In addition, purchase a receipt book to keep track of things and also for giving your customers a receipt. That's pretty much it. Keep in mind that you will have to pay taxes if your business is successful...so keep track of your income and keep all your receipts for material, travel costs (gas receipts for your vehicle) and everything else related to your business that you purchase. Good luck!

First, you may verify to work out in the experience that your state demands a shape contractors license. seek your state companies for "shape contractor board" to work out what the standards are. Many states require an training ingredient till now granting a license (i'm in Oregon and the attempt replaced into very somewhat uncomplicated). you will additionally choose for criminal duty insurance and a bond till now they are going to furnish the license. 2nd, i does no longer recommend incorporation. An LLC will probably provide you the indoors maximum criminal duty risk-free practices you go with for with out all of the as quickly as a year comments and the choose for for an criminal expert. learn the adjustments to be sure if an LLC is suited for you. lower back, my adventure is in Oregon and Washington... the state's Secretary of State web site has the varieties on line and that they may be filled out and filed in under an hour. My wager is that your state would have an identical gadget for registering a clean LLC.
