...because either you guys have no sense of humor or are just answering with "i dunno" or "yay! 2 points for me!" When I ask about science, I don't want you to quote Firefly. Anyone else have this problem?

I feel your pain...what's the point of saying "i dont know"? Thats not helpful at all! And the details are there for a reason, and you cant really answer a question unless you know all the facts that are being presented. People are dumb...

No, not really. I always read the full question before I decide to answer it or not. If I don't feel I have the knowledge, or if it doesn't interest me, I pass it by. I do, however, answer the questions I choose in the spirit they were asked. If they were asked with thought and out of a desire for knowledge, then I answer accordingly. If the person is being playful, then I also answer accordingly.

I usually read them, first. No, but there have been times I asked a question, and the answers were irrelevant to the question. But for refference, there's dfferent kind of science.

Yes to both of your questions.

I wonder if it would help if levels were based on the percentage of best answers. I.e. you can't reach level N unless you have X number of points AND your best answer percentage is above Y%. Dunno what the actual numbers should be, though.
