Get rid of bloody credit cards and fines for going a penny over your overdraft limit. I was £5 overdrawn and I got charged £75 for it! bloody liberty lol. My sister actually thought that she should apply for a credit card so she would get a good credit rating to apply for a mortgage. Nobody has a good credit rating when you have a credit card. My and my partner don't have any, the only debt we have is our mortgage and that's the way it will stay!

That's pretty fascinating. I'd been looking for definitive information about the UK's National Debt for sometime.

However this figure might be just consumer debt.. probably is. Still heavy duty debt.

Part of the problem I think is the debt culture we have in this country. The banks/lenders have changed the landscape via marketing to make debt "normal practise"... and the tv is full of loan commercials.

And they push it on you... my bank rings me up about loans..... and asks me to come in for "personal banking review" - which I know is just their way of wanting to sell me something.

Being in debt is not for me (other than necessary for mortgage) cause you pay lots more on the drip than saving up for what you want... or hunting out a cheaper bargain for cash / or good quality 2nd hand item.

What i want to know is why can`t the government just pay everyone`s debt`s off for them ( They can afford to right off billion`s of ££`s owed to Britain from other country`s ) So why not right off everyone`s personal debt just once , and every-one could have a clean slate ?
I know it would never happen but there is no reason why they couldn't do it !
