how do i correct the direct tv remote?

i used a friends tv, i turned on the remote and the cable(direct tv) dish came on. when i finished watching the show, i hit the off button and now nothing comes on the screen, no cable no regular tv? how do i fix this problem?

TV remote: Turn the TV off or on.

Make sure the TV is on the right channel, usually 3 or 4. You use the TV remote for on and off and checking to see if it's on 3 or 4 only. Then do all the surfing with the cable remote. Make sure the TV is on with it's red light or other color on light.

Cable remote: Turn the cable box off or on.
