In the days when comic books prevailed and the neatest thing in town was the wireless, the artist always used a string of Zzz to indicate snoring. A bump on the head was emphasised by using small stars and a cussing word used Astrix.
Speech was encased in bubbles or balloons issuing from the mouth and contentment always displayed bangers and mash.

ZZZ is an onomatopoeia (a grouping of words, that imitates the sound it is describing, and thus suggests its source object, such as “bang” or “click”, or animal such as “moo”, “oink”, “quack”, or “meow”) to signify snoring when sleeping. The "zzz" comes from the wheezing sound when someone snores since many times it sounds like a long soft z sound
