For all who answered morticians, that is incorrect. Morticians, (aka funeral directors), DO NOT work in the morgue, we work at a funeral home. The people that work at the morgue (where autopsies are done) are called autopsy techs, pathologists and of course they also have secretarial staff.

All answers are close.....I've owned seven hearses and usually the car that comes to get the body is called a "First Call" vehicle. When the police file a report that includes a dead body. they call the coroner to come take the body to the morgue. These cars were referred to as "First Call" vehicles Hearses are from ambulances that also served as hearses or combination cars. Formal hearses are usually Cadillac, Henley's, Lincolns, Packards, LaSalles, even Fords, Pontiacs, Buicks and Chevrolets. .All these procedures depend on era they were needed. I just purchased a 1953 Chevrolet that was used as "First Call' in Orleans parish during the 50's
