They were fighting over a spot on the bleachers, and i couldn't help but think to myself, this guy has no room to talk, why would a fat guy call another fat guy "fat" when he is also fat?

Well...
I hear people call each other "stupid" all the time, and invariably, the term could be applied equitably....
I have been fat, my entire life. I do not consider it an insult -- merely an observation... If someone called me "fat", I would simply remark that they were stating the obvious.
If you, per-chance are not fat, and I called you "skinny" would it make you feel anything at all?? maybe?? maybe not??
The fact that you think it is different for fat people is a sign that you feel superior in some way, and that is understandable, but it is not a proper view. Most people consider fat people to be inferior, and two fat people calling each other fat might seem incomprehensible to you.

The fat guy feels a little depressed or something about his weight or condition and calls the other guy fat to make him feel superior to him. Basically the same concept of bullying. They feel depressed at home or somewhere else and takes their anger on someone else. Hope that helps

I was not there to hear his tone of voice so it is hard to say if he was hungry and just talking to himself or making random, unnecessary insults to whoever happened to be nearby. I think the lack of privacy in dorms can stress a person. You get stuck living with jerks you should not have to live with. Get your own apartment as soon as possible. There is no need to justify his rude behavior by saying it was in good fun. Bullies try to protect themselves from retallation by saying, "It's just a joke." If it hurts someone's feelings, it really is not a joke.

I guess because they are the same in size, it is okay for them to tease each other. But if it was someone else of a different body size, then it would be insulting, and considered wrong. Just as the African Americans call each other names, but if you are not of the same race, it is offensive. That is just the way it is really.

Because human judgments are often relative in nature; If you have more fat than I do, you're fat(ter than I am). If someone has less fat than I do, then I am fat(ter than him/her). But remember, negative remarks don't go far. Ever heard the phrase: "I am not fat, I am just big-boned"?

It's just one of those things. It's like recognizing like. Would you feel the same way if you heard Angelina Jolie saying that Jessica Alba is a beautiful woman? I guess it's like that.
