very common running injury to the knee area. You are rubbing away at the protective case of your knee caps. I would take some time off from running, and mix in some biking. When you bike, you use the front of your thighs instead of your hamstrings. This actually offsets a lot of the wear of the running.
And secondly, accept your limitations. We all have them. Listen to your body. The problem you have now if the classic runners wear and tear problem on the knees. I have found that triathlon training forces you to mix in swimming and biking with running and greatly reduces running wear and tear.

I have injured my knee before and i can give you some advice. First get off your knee!!! Let it rest up and let the swelling go down. Ice it and heat it as well, for 20 minutes of each and keep cycling between the two. After a week from the injury go to a doctor that can perform a basic examination using some physical techniques involving there hands and a few x-rays. If they all come up negative then you most likely got a mild sprain of a ligament or even pinched your cartilage in your knee.

if you aren't stetching your quads, you could be also damaging your knee. There is a muscle that connects your knee to your quad. also, you could have pronation in your knees which is when your knees turn out or inward. You might want to invest in a pair of shoes that give support for your knees. If you go to an expert, not in a regular store ( they don't know what they are doing), they will give you a full examination of what kind of shoes you should need. Because i run heavy on the heel i need more support for the ball of my foot. Good luck and be safe.

1. You need new running shoes they are only good for 3 to six months.
2.Your running flat footed. You need to run heal roll to toes.
3. You have weak knees and or shins and it could be a problem for the rest of your life.
4. You haven't done the rotations of the knees to distribute the natural lubricant in that area.

I reckon that sounds like a tendon thing, they cross over under the knee cap and when you straighten and bend they are supposed to smoothly flex over that area, I would think thats the answer. Get it checked out you only get one set! Knee pain can cripple you! Deadset!

If you run regularly it could be that your wearing out the lubricant between the lining of your bone. This means (corn bread def.)
when you run the bones have rub together and the thinner the layer the more pain you'll have when you run. I would go to a doctor.

It might be due to loss of calcium and phosphorous in your bones..
So try having nutritious food mainly rich in "Calcium and Phosphorous"
Also try to have some gentle massage after the jog...
