Does anyone remember a book called "The Amazing Sophie"?

It's a Victorian romance novel with a very witty lead female character. I read it years ago and can't locate my copy or any trace of it when I search the net.

You may be thinking of "The Grand Sophy" by Georgette Heyer. Even if you can't find that one, anything by her is excellent entertainment.

No. I have never heard of it. Try searching on library/book store sites.
